Photo by Cristina Gottardi on UnsplashA Weston resident — and talented musician — has invited locals to two “house concerts” in her front yard in the King’s Grant neighborhood. No, not that kind of house music–this is not the 80s and Weston has never been the club scene, except during Prohibition and hiding out in the JST. But that’s a different story. This is music for the piano, and the concerts take place outside this Wednesday and Thursday, October 20 and 21 at 2 pm.
“I hope everyone can enjoy a relaxing and rejuvenating time with piano music,” said Minkyung Oh. The program for Wednesday, with some possible changes for Thursday, includes:
- Mozart Twinkle Twinkle Variations
- Beethoven Moonlight Sonata
- Chopin Ballade No. 4
- Kreisler-Rachmaninoff Liebesleid (Love’s Sorrow)
“It [the outdoor concert] is something I’ve been thinking about for a while, but I guess I was lacking the courage. When I realized that that the weather was about to get too cold soon, I just decided to do it. I actually view it as my duty to practice, play and share my music with other people.”
From video taken at the last outdoor concert in May 2021Attendees can use one of the 25 or so chairs that will be set up in the front yard or can bring their own chair or picnic blankets. If you want a reserved chair, please contact Minkyung at minkyungoh@gmail.com. Babies and kids are welcome, and the concert is free. The address will be provided with RSVP.
The house will not be open to the public, so please know that no restroom is available (and don’t even bother with Dairy Joy down the street–they do not have one for you). For questions about the afternoon, please contact Minkyung. Please note that the concert will be video recorded.
